Here is the interview with Dirrell:

Today I had the pleasure of speaking to Andre Dirrell about the super 6 tournament and his upcoming fight with Carl Froch.

Christian: Before anything how are you doing Andre? And Thanks for the opportunity.

Andre: Thanks a lot I’m doing pretty good, I’m hanging in there, I’m committed to it, great opportunity great situation and I’m just ready to make it happen.

Christian: First of all how does it feel to be part of such a tournament like the super 6? The fighters in the tournament are no joke.

Andre: No not at all not damn one of them and that’s why I figured I have to be in tip top shape. I have to be ready mentally, physically and I have to be ready to do my job. This is a blessing to be in this position specially being the underdog in this tournament which is a great thing cause I have a lot more to prove now. Any win in this tournament will boost my notoriety and me having the WBC first I won’t take it lightly so I believe I will make a great statement in the sport of boxing.

Christian: You’re the fighter with the lowest amount of pro fights in the tournament, does the lack of pro experience make you feel like you need to prove yourself to the rest? Or does it make no difference to you?

Andre: In regular fights one on one I couldn’t understand why people would think I could even lose, but in a tournament like this I can understand why I’m an underdog because it’s totally acceptable. I want to prove to the fans that this is where I belong and I want to show them that I’m a monster in this sport and I’m a force to be wrecken with, I plan on making a statement so I’m happy with the situation of me being an underdog.

Christian: Now I know you will be fighting Carl Froch on Oct 17th in the UK, How do you feel physically and mentally about this fight?

Andre: Physically I’m safe so these last two weeks of training will just be re-assurance. Mentally I will have to go in there with a great state of mind and be ready to execute my game plan, I’m willing to do anything for the belt.

Christian: Have you done anything different in your training camp to prepare for Carl Froch?

Andre:  Right now I’m following a good diet plan with a different work out method, different environment everything is different but with the same work ethic though. Working just as hard if not harder so I have been ready like I said for the past week and a half I’m feeling great, I’m feeling excellent and just ready to make this happen.

Christian: Jermain Taylor did very well against Froch till the later rounds, do you think he lead the way on how to beat him and are you or your team studying that fight?

Andre:  I’ve watched it a few times, my main thing is that he (Froch) showed heart, determination and he is a fighter that can go 12 rounds so you have to go to the fight with your “A” game because he is not going to give it up easily. So I have studied the fight and my whole game plan is to go in and try to break his will in the first couple of rounds.

Christian: The fight is in Froch’s home town. Will that affect your performance with a mostly one sided crowd?

Andre: I’ll have all the fans I need there, I’ll have my corner, I’ll have my mother, my promoter and my manager. I’ll have all the people I need there and I plan on keeping the crowd very quiet, I hope he (Froch) doesn’t depend on them to get me to fall off my game plan because that’s not going to happen. I feel great about this situation.

Christian: Carl Froch told the Daily News “After I have smashed him to smithereens he may not even want to box on." Do you have anything to say to such comments?

Andre: A fighter’s opinion, he is supposed to have that confidence he is a fighter. He is supposed to have that will and that train of thoughts but I believe he is going to quit the tournament after this fight. I hope he doesn’t, I hope he has great defense for the next fighter because what I’m going to do is literally break his will and make him wonder if he even belongs in this tournament.

Christian: Now just a quick prediction who do you have on Abraham vs. Taylor which happens the same night?

Andre: I believe it will be a tossup, Taylor can win if he is in shape to last 12 rounds and if he boxes them correctly. Abraham is a strong fighter and I can see him pulling it off with his will so it’s pretty much a tossup for me.

Christian: Well Andre thanks for the opportunity it was an honor speaking to you and on behalf of Officialscorecard.com and myself we wish you the best, see you Oct 17th

Andre: Thanks take care.

Andre may be the underdog in the tournament but simply by speaking with him it is easy to notice he lacks no confidence. He has the abilities and the will to make it to the end and he will not disappoint.
