Today going to pick up Jean at school I saw a little llama standing by the gate. I got out of the car and walked up to her. She walked up to me and I pet her and left. When I came back she was in the same place, the rest of the pack is rejecting her (something that I have seen done before that usually leads to the rejected llama dying). I decided to walk with her to my house and there she stayed, when I got back home we gave her milk on a bottle and she loved it. Now I'm just going to have to wait on some people I know to come to the restaurant to see if they can take her home because lonely llama's never survive.

I think she is sick though Rene, I read the rest of the llama's reject them when they are sick. I dont know what to do because she will die if she doesnt get major help or atleast some one to bottle feed her everyday. I will let you know.

true dat she is probably sick. All animals reject abnormal babies. I have had alot of experience nursing babies (nohting this big) back to health, birds, kittens, puppies, a deer once (it wasnt for very long though just a couple weeks). Depending on how new of a baby she is though, if shes a couple of days, then shes not getting the clostrum needed that the mama gives her which is really bad with winter coming up. The colostrum helps with infections and their immune system and if hte winters gives her a cold she will be weaker then most babies and die. She will need winter clothes and shelter. Im very interested in taking her because if napoleon accepts her he could be a big part in keeping her warm in the winter not to mention i have alot of miniature horse clothing that ended up being too small even for napoleon and i think would probably fit a baby llama. I was gonna save it for my mare for next year if she did end up foaling but i wouldnt mind using a llama either. Ne ways let me know.

One thing that drives me crazy is that I know from experience that a baby llama would have died days ago and this one is lasting. Frank took her to the llama house but I bet he is not feeding her and just waiting for her to die, I'm willing to steal her for her own good. If you are serious I will go get her.

Haha that actually made me very happy seeing him like that. Poor guy was sitting by my house in the hardcore rain the other day and now he is with a full belly and warm.

I dont know, he acts wierd. When i got him home i fed him right away. It drank about 2 cups of milk, within 2 hrs and then stopped. That was around 830 cuz i tried to feed him again at 9 and then 930 and it didnt want anything. I was like ok, i went to Josh's came back around 12 and tried to feed him again and he still didnt want anything. Hes trying to get away and wants to walk off. He doesnt like his face touched and he moves his head around wierd like he doesnt know what hes doing. When i was feeding him he was very calm and then after wards he got grumpy and keeps checking the walls. I think something mental might be wrong with him. I dont know, do you know the exact age of the llama. Maybe that will make me understand him better. I did see him go pee, i guess thats a good thing, he peed a really long time so its got fluids in it. Im not very familiar with Llamas so idk if this is llama behaviour, cuz they are kinda grumpy annoying animals but hes just a baby, i didnt expect them to get stupid like that till adulthood.

I was actually looking at him this morning. And he has bottom teeth?! According to a chart i found, he should be at least 6 months!!! how is this possible? he is so small, doesnt want feed but doesnt want the milk. Hell drink water out of the bottle but if i put milk in it he doesnt want it. Very perplexing. Any ways he still pretty active. Napoleon is freaked out by him so they definatly wont be friends LOL. Here are so more pics.

I actually dont even think he is two weeks old, he might be about a week old. A 6 month llama would be much bigger than that. I looked at another llama that was born not so long ago and she also has teeth. They dont grow top teeth which is weird but this llama here is younger and already has teeth too. They are all grumpy like that but a lady at the restaurant that breeds llamas had told me before that llamas have trust issues. It takes time for them to gain trust.

Well i dont knwo what hte hell to do. Im thinking of feeding him through a tube down his mouth. It says to do it if they dont eat. I think maybe we waited too long. He just doesnt want to eat. Anyways, like i said before these llamas having babies late in the season isnt good and thats probably why you witness so many baby deaths. Yes some llamas will survive but every site i read said if they are born at this time of the year they need to be watched every day for the first two weeks. Your landlords llamas must have a late gestation and that guy really shouldnt even be breeding those llamas if hes not going to watch them properly. From everything iv read baby llamas in genreal, not just ones born in the fall, need to be watched very closely in the first week and weighed every day. Not just that but llamas born around this time of hte year are suppose to get vitamin suppliments, apparently Llamas born in North America need it. This little guy is sick, i think he might die in a couple of days. He can move and eveyr thing now but hes just a baby and his matabolism is fast. Hes wobbly and slow, which isnt good and you can feel all of his bones and he wont eat. I hope he makes it to monday cuz i know Pricilla will have all the equipment needed if he needs to be tube fed. And i think your right about the teeth though chrisitan that chart i mentioned was talking abour "permanent" teeth lol. I didnt see that part. anyways ill update later.

Thanks but it really is just for the weekend. If he does make it, it will be thanks to Priscilla. I actually recalculated my feedings and he actually is doing ok in a sense. He drinking enough milk to maintain his weight from my calculations and what the book says, but he isnt eating enough to gain weight. Hes super thin so he still needs to drink about 1 cup more then what hes taking now. Idk i think its 50/50 if he does make it. Its sad cuz if he doesnt die now he probably will during the winter because of his neglect as a baby and lack of the nutrition needed in the first week. :( Hes kind of a dick though so... yeah LOL jkjk. But yeah hes moody

Ok so it turns out I am going to get the llama back eventually, probably i about 6 months. He will be weaned by then and I have enough time to build him a space and barn. The only reason im taking him back is for medical and living reasons. Aparently male llamas that are raised by humans can develop  "Berserk Male Syndrome" where they become attached to humans and treat them like their own. I need to pay for his gelding and to keep him in an area with "like" animals. I guess ill put him around my horses. I cant be sweet to him though which sucks :(

so far as i can tell hes good. If i do get him back im going to teach him to drive when he hits a year... probably. They say it only takes about a month to teach them and that they are alot safer then horses.
